Hi everyone, thank you for taking the time to get to know me!

My name is Kay Porter and I recently started at 4Pillars as an environmental consultant.

I have always been fascinated by nature and the environment. Growing up, I spent most of my time outside, exploring, climbing trees and catching lizards and butterflies. So, it was no surprise to those who know me that I decided to pursue my passion and enrol in a Bachelor of Environmental Biology at the University of Technology Sydney. I enjoyed my undergraduate experience so much, that I decided to continue my study and undergo an Honours in environmental biology. My Honours project focused on the impacts of climate change on Lesueur’s velvet gecko, a species found along the east coast of NSW. I absolutely loved the weekly trips to the field site, collecting data and discovering the results.

Throughout my degree, a number of environmental issues were brought to my attention and this further strengthened my passion for protecting and conserving the environment. After my honours was completed, I was keen to start working in the environmental field with people with shared values. I am so grateful that working at 4Pillars has given me that opportunity! After being here only a short time, I have already learnt and experienced so much and look forward to further increasing my knowledge and skills! In my spare time, I enjoy going for bushwalks near my home in the Blue Mountains, drawing and cross-country skiing! I am a big fan of sci-fi and fantasy so my favourite book would have to be The Painted Man, and my favourite TV series is Buffy the Vampire Slayer!
