Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time to get to know me.

My name is Ijeoma Ehighibe, but everyone calls me IJ. I recently started working at 4Pillars Environmental Consulting as a consultant. My professional background is mostly related to pollution/land contamination.  I have previously worked on a clean-up project that involved crude oil spillage that affected the riverine and farmland in that community. Though I am new to working at 4Pillars, it has been one of the healthiest and fun work environments I have been a part of.

My interest for the environment emerges from the desire to find solutions to environmental problems we are facing in my country, Nigeria. These range from land, water, noise, and air pollution to sea level rise, and extreme heat. These issues are intrinsically linked to climate change and have resulted in flash flooding, drought, and diseases/infections which in most cases has sadly resulted in death. I have seen the rippling effects caused by these environmental disasters first-hand and how it can damage lives and homes. As a result, I was determined to make a difference, so I made the decision to come to Australia to complete a masters of Environment at Macquarie University, Sydney. During my studies, I was given the opportunity to learn various strategies to combat environmental issues via sustainable mitigation, remediation, and conservation methods. I hope to be able put this knowledge and skillset towards minimizing the effects of natural disasters and ultimately have a positive impact on people’s lives.

I have always enjoyed admiring nature hence growing up I loved watching National Geographic channel. I found the concept of learning about biodiversity, animals, landscapes/topography very intriguing. On the job, I enjoy being in the field, I find that I’m able to learn and understand concepts much easier and faster with the hands-on experience. However, I have a big phobia of reptiles.

When I am not working, I enjoy nature and landscape drawings, cooking, watching movies and listening to music. I have read a couple of books over the years and Nora Roberts is my go-to novelist while my favourite series out of so many would be “Legend of the seeker, Merlin, The Originals and Friends”.

Though I am still building my career, I believe 4Pillars will be an enabling environment to grow, learn and develop into a great Environmental Consultant.

Thank you for taking out time to read about me, I can’t wait to showcase my learning experiences and accomplishments in the future.
