My name is James Karagiannis and I’ve joined 4Pillars as an Environmental Consultant within the Contaminated Land Management team. Some of my previous work experience involves improving the sustainability of commercial property via the implementation of a sustainable rating system and working within a NATA accredited environmental laboratory as a lab technician and client project manager. I am passionate about the environment, have a deeply nerdy fixation with all things science and love interacting with people – making 4Pillars the perfect playground for me!

Influenced by my high school geography teaching mum, I grew up in an atmosphere of curiosity for the natural world. I was the little kid collecting fascinating looking rocks and conducting chemistry experiments at home, which organically evolved into a career in geosciences. I studied Environmental Science at the University of Sydney, with a particular enjoyment from geology, hydrology and chemistry units. To me, these disciplines unveil the weird and wonderful complexities that is our planet and a viewport into the history of our very origin.

Since joining 4Pillars I have been empowered with the resources and knowledge to lead projects which may include waste classifications, preliminary and detailed site investigations, and remediation action plan implementations. I have also been able to develop my professional qualifications and hope to continue learning about this fascinating field of work!

When I’m not getting my hands dirty in the field, you’ll find me hiking, snorkelling, cooking or trying to explore food and culture through travel. I’m not much of a book worm but love a podcast, my favourites being Shirtloads of Science with Dr Karl and Real Risk by Richard Harris. I’ll enjoy any film Tarantino makes (for his unapologetic violence) and am sucker for sitcoms, namely The Office and Seinfeld.

Thanks for getting to know me and my journey into the Enviro world!
